Typecast is a project that explores typecasting practices in the entertainment industry.
Created in collaboration with photojournalist Griselda San Martin, this satirical portrait series features actors of color embodying two roles: the stereotypical characters they are often typecast as, and their “wish roles”—the nuanced, aspirational characters they wish to play. This project aims to challenge harmful stereotypes and reimagine actors of color as complex, leading protagonists.
The resulting images were published on the March 19, 2020 issue of The Washington Post Magazine. Read the article here.
